Domus lends a hand in Comcast Cares Day

Don’t be afraid to get down and dirty with your staff. One of the best ways to improve employee retention, all while creating a dynamic impact on others, is through corporate volunteer work. It’s a win-win for your company and for the community. On Saturday, April 21, Domus employees dedicated part of their weekend to volunteering in participation with Comcast Cares Day. And believe it or not, according to a 2016 Deloitte study on volunteering, millennials were “twice as likely to rate their corporate culture as very positive” if their company participated in workplace volunteer activities.

So don’t feel bad asking your staff to volunteer – make a day of team-building in the fresh outdoors and then reward them with a lunch for their volunteer efforts. In the long run, employees will look back positively at the experience, and your company will have just selflessly helped the community. That’s one easy PR move, or as Charlie Sheen said back in 2011, “#winning!”

What is Comcast Cares Day? Comcast Cares Day is one of the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts. This year marked the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day, with projects in 11 cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia, to name a few. Since starting in 2001, volunteers have contributed over 5 million hours of service with 7,700 projects.

Why should your company volunteer? Well first, it’s just downright good for your community. Volunteer work helps better the community where your business is located, and people want to work with/for a company that makes conscience efforts to improve its surroundings. Also, through company-sponsored volunteer work, employees build an emotional attachment to their employer – it’s called loyalty.

How do you get started on charity/volunteer work? Take advantage of successful programs that already exist and have garnered public recognition, such as Comcast Cares Day. You can ask your clients if their organization has any existing programs set up that you can participate in. Or just start your own by teaming up with a local organization.
