The HR sector is affected by all the measures we all need to take to prevent the spread of the virus. And this crisis made HR Professionals rethink their work, so we will experience a shift in HR practices this year. There will be more people who apply for jobs, as many are unemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic and recruiters will need to face many challenges. 

According to a study conducted who interviewed over 200 HR Professionals, these are seven tips that as a recruiter, you need to implement in 2020. 

  1. Let People Know You Have Open Positions 

As I said, the world pandemic changed the way we work and live forever. And because many people lost their jobs, it is natural to assume that companies are not looking for applicants. But while some sectors are more severely affected, others thrive during this period. To have applicants for your open positions, you need to let people know that you are recruiting. 

There are many options on how you can advertise the opportunities within your company, including periodic posts on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. 

2. Rethink Your Recruiting Process 

Now that face to face meetings should be avoided, it is likely that the recruiting process will entirely shift to online meetings. This will be a real challenge as many recruiters and applicants might experience problems with their internet connection or devices. And many interviews could be delayed, making your work as a recruiter harder. 

Rethink your recruiting process and find ways to make the process smoother, both for you and the applicants. 

3. Use Test Platforms

One important component of a recruiting process is the technical test, where recruiters seek to see if the applicant has the technical skillset necessary. Usually, they were conducted by expert employees, but now this process can be made automatically. 

Many platforms offer you the possibility of designing an online test for the applicants. You can set the time for every question and all the data will be stored in a spreadsheet. 

4. Shift the Onboarding Process Online 

The onboarding process will likely not be as it was before this pandemic. And recruiters need to shift it online, as the social distancing or lockdown measures will be available for some time. Thanks to today's technological advancements, you can conduct online meetings with over 15 participants, share screens, and tell the story of your company. 

5. Look for Remote Working Skills 

There are two types of people: those who love working from home and those who don’t. Unfortunately, many will need to adapt to working from home, so you need to look for skills that show that candidates can successfully do this. They need to know how to manage their time and working space, as well as communicate effectively. 

At the same time, it is important not to reject suitable candidates that fit within the team but who need to polish their soft skills. No one is perfect and we learn new things every day. 

6. Revise All Job Descriptions and Roles Available Within the Company 

The pandemic has an impact on every domain, and there might be some changes needed within your company too. This means that maybe some requirements changed. Or maybe you need to close some open positions and open others more suitable for the workforce and the actual situation. There might be subtle changes in your job offer, so it is better to review them before you start looking for candidates. 

7. Implement Employee Retention Techniques 

One of the most challenging parts of a recruiting process is the last step, the one of employee retention. All the employees need to be involved in the processes within the company to foster a sense of community and belongingness. We are in this together, and even if it is harder to strengthen the bond between team members and colleagues, we can all face it. 

Nurturing an environment where people are encouraged to speak and share their opinion is recommended.

While some of these activities can be conducted online, some need better planning.
