Wonderful news: for the first time in 75 years fresh green native grass is growing where there used to be airport runway tarmac in Santa Monica. The runway has been shortened, a big chunk of asphalt removed, and the noisy, polluting corporate jets restricted though not yet eliminated. All this helps fight climate change and gets millions of gallons of previously wasted rainwater down into our aquifer. Next – pedestrian and bike paths through the grasslands and a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan laying out how, when the whole airport finally shuts down in 2028, we’ll create the Great Park itself. Can’t wait!
