Happy #GlobalTADay from #Teamexaqueo

Earlier this week we celebrated Labor Day in the U.S. and today, we celebrate another group of hard-working people, our Talent Acquisition professionals. As former Talent Acquisition and HR professionals ourselves, #Teamexaqueo feels especially proud to celebrate this profession. This year, to celebrate #GlobalTADay our team compiled a list of advice based on our experience in the field. It’s such an exciting and changing industry with so much opportunity, we hope to inspire the next generation of Talent Acquisition professionals and encourage others to do the same.  If you would like to browse additional resources, check out this post

Lexi Gordon: The industry is changing so much, so don’t feel like your inexperience is a knock against you. Try to translate your skills to new roles, and stay on top of trends and shifts to keep up with the pace.

Shannon Smedstad: Start thinking of employer brand as a strategy, not simply the execution of stuff. Do you want to be known as the person who posts pictures on Instagram or the internal advisor who helps move the needle? Seek to understand the current state of talent inside your organization and where the business needs it to go. That’s the gap. How can you, your team, the employer brand bridge it?

Susan LaMotte: Consider the entire candidate journey—from the time a candidate is aware of an organization as an employer all the way through their onboarding and sense of belonging. Where do you most enjoy making an impact? And then, how close do you want to be to the candidate? Do you want that direct interaction, strategic oversight, or driving technology behind the scenes?

Alyssa Bani: Embed yourself in the business. Build relationships with hiring managers and leaders. Get to know their challenges and opportunities. Learn what they think sets the organization apart, what motivates them, and why they chose to work for the company. Having close connections across the business will offer myriad benefits, including authentic insight to share with candidates about what it’s like to work within the business.

Emily Fritz: Always ask more questions. Seek to understand how your role impacts your department, other departments, and the company as a whole. Being able to see the bigger picture will help you navigate the organization and in turn, show the way for others who join after you.

Jackie Wollett: Make time for communicating with candidates. In today’s world, it’s so easy to get bogged down with postings, scheduling, dispositioning, and all the other tasks that go into hiring that we can forget that candidates don’t always have all the information they need. Make yourself available to candidates and be genuine, detailed, and consistent in your communications. Show them that you care and that you are there to help them navigate an often stressful process.

Erin DeGroot: Don’t underestimate the value of your experiences, no matter where they’ve come from. Each brings a valuable perspective that ultimately helps you understand the candidate journey. Putting yourself in the shoes of the candidate will provide a consistent reminder of the importance of authenticity and transparency throughout.
