Last week, Entelo hosted a webinar where our panelists discussed 1:1 some of the ways to leverage your data findings in your hiring (and retention) efforts. Our experts included Kevin Walters, Lead Diversity L&D Program Manager at Amazon, and Andre Boulais, VP of Customer Success at Entelo,

The data is trending up and there is a huge increase in individuals that are searching in underrepresented talent pools. Some of the biggest increases are being found in Staffing Agencies, Financial Services & Insurance, and the Healthcare & Pharmaceutical industry.

Here are some other key takeaways from Thursday's event:

Key Takeaways

1. Create a connection with your candidates by differentiating your communication with them.

"One thing about diversity and sourcing: it's not a one shoe fits all approach. You really want to have a custom [strategy] when you're [engaging] these candidates," Kevin points out.

2. Build relationships with underrepresented groups and communities.

"Think long term and [...] if you find someone that's a good fit for your company, culture, and for the role, keep them in your rolodex and pipeline," Kevin says. "There's value in being able to go and build that talent community and go back to them and keep them informed about what you're doing until the timing is right."

3. Walk the walk, don't just talk the talk, when it comes to DE&I, because candidates will see right through it.

As Kevin clarifies, "Do what you believe is important when it comes to diversity. You're not just promoting. Otherwise, it won't look like you're very authentic and you're not being credible in the marketplace."

4. Measure not just the hires, but also the misses.

Andre explains that, "More often than not you might find a large amount of individuals that you might have engaged with and you have a core initiative to hire individuals from underrepresented talent pools. But it turns out that you engaged with a lot [...] and they actually turned and took a job somewhere else. Why didn't they come to [your company].

5. One of the biggest barriers to improving diversity at your company is getting diverse candidates past the interview stage.

"So much of it is looking at your process, seeing where there's gaps, seeing where there's ways to improve," Andre says.
