The best intern recruiting content

Reading Time: 3 minutes

In 2019, over 66 percent of of paid interns received a job offer at the conclusion of their internship.*

Whether you’re hiring one intern or 100, you know a strong internship class can reduce cost-per-hire and is a great talent pipeline. However, not all intern recruitment content is created equal. At Stories Inc, we’ve interviewed hundreds of early career talent. We’ve found that the best intern recruiting content is created from the moments that matter: why they joined, the moment they decided they wanted to stay, and the people and experiences that have made a difference in their budding careers.

Here are the story themes future interns are looking for in your university and early career recruiting content.

1. Stories of purpose

74 percent of Gen Z candidates rank purpose ahead of paycheck in what’s most important to them at work.** So, when communicating your company’s purpose to interns, don’t stop at the mission statement. Early careers and intern candidates want to hear from their peers and how the work they’re doing connects to the overall mission. And, if your content can take it one step further and show how their work connects to an employee’s personal purpose, that’s gold.

2. Stories of professional growth

Leave no doubt in interns’ minds that they’ll end the summer leaps and bounds ahead of where they were when it started. Share stories that provide them with proof that an internship at your company will help them grow.

Joy from Bowman Consulting walked us through how she developed her skills through low-pressure practice exercises that helped her improve as an engineer.

3. Stories of relationships that last

Show potential interns how they will build meaningful relationships with experienced professionals within your organization. What does your company do to encourage these connections?

During his summer at Dell Technologies, one intern scheduled over 100 one-on-one meetings with company leaders. Check out their full video on their Open Door Policy below:

Early career, intern and university candidates want to hear stories like this from your team members. Capture these stories and share them in your culture content. As a result, you’ll give them the best intern recruiting content possible.
