Which Internal Communications Should Be Prioritized?

Subscribe to Email Updates

There are many different types of internal communications that companies should prioritize. It can be difficult for a smaller company to determine what those are, especially without a dedicated internal communications team.

While tools like an internal communications content calendar certainly make organization easier, companies should ensure their peer, leadership, or team communications are prioritized and done effectively. Here is a detailed breakdown to help companies better understand and properly prioritize their internal communications.

Peer Communication

It should be a given that people who work together need to get along. However, in order to do so, they need to have the tools that allow them to form both personal and professional connections with one another.

The best way to do this is to provide employees with a space where they are actively encouraged to talk with one another about non-work related content. Although this form of communication tends to happen organically, employees will appreciate you recognizing its importance. Some ways to facilitate peer to peer communication include organizing happy hours, team lunches, or other events for employees to socialize. On a day-to-day level, this could also mean providing a physical congregation space in your office, or offering a channel in your employee app for peer to peer communication.

Leadership Communication

Leadership communication includes everything from email updates regarding changes in leadership, meetings on the business’s performance last quarter, or any sort of major company announcement, amongst others.

To keep employees engaged with their work and committed to the organization, it is vital for employees to regularly hear from their employers. Plus, keeping an open channel of communication between management and employees is a great way to enhance corporate transparency, overall improving the productivity of the employees. Leadership communications should also follow a standard, ensuring employees trust and understand that the communication is official.

Teamwork Communication

In almost every company, there will be employees that are segmented into different groups based on their role in the company. These teams or departments of employees will need to communicate frequently in order to be cohesive and in most cases, to simply accomplish their job.

Providing channels for team communication and opportunities for collaboration is a necessary step for employees. One way they can do this is to provide their employees with things like an employee app, where they can set up group chats and exchange live updates.

All three of these types of internal communications should be prioritized by companies in order to keep their employees engaged and up-to-date. To get help implementing any of these, contact our team today.
