Habari Gani (what’s the news)? Imani. Today, January 1st is the seventh day of Kwanzaa, Imani, which means faith.

It is the fourth day of Heart and Soul Center of Light presents Sankofa, Ancestral Healing and Kwanzaa Rite of Passage.

During New Year Eve’s “watch night” Dr. Will Coleman asked for suggestions to make Kwanzaa a “rhythm of life” rather than an annual event as it has been for 53 years.

The principles of Kwanzaa lend themselves to correlate nicely with the days of the week and they can be used year round on any project and in all aspects of our lives.

I am reminded of something that works well for me, the concept of repetition.

Today is Imani, January 1st and we can continue repeating Kwanzaa in 2020, now, in the present, tomorrow, January 2nd is Umoja, unity.

January 3rd is Kujichagulia, self-determination.

January 4th is Ujima, collective work and responsibility.

January 5th is Ujamaa, cooperative economics.

January 6th is Nia, purpose.

January 7th is Kuumba, creativity.

And January 8th we repeat with Imani, faith.

Got it? It’s a Sankofa (go back and fetch them) moment. Let’s get it. Kwanzaa year round as a rhythm of life. I am in, who else?

Ase (we will make it happen)!

Harambee, Harambee, Harambee, Harambee, Harambee, Harambee, Harambee!
