Uptight Coworkers? Spiking Their Drinks with LSD is Not the Way to Solve this Problem.

Do your coworkers lack a sense of humor? Are they not excited about happy hour on Thursdays? Well, a 19-year-old Enterprise Rent-A-Car worker in Missouri admits to giving his coworkers LSD laced drinks to his coworkers because “they were too uptight, and needed to have better energy.”

“…allegedly told investigators he did it because “they were too uptight, and needed to have better energy,” https://t.co/Ae4IoI4U93— Alyssa Hernandez | High on HR (@highonhr) March 23, 2019

I assure you that Ms. Hernandez is not high on LSD or any other drug–simply HR. But, I wondered why people think this is an okay thing.

  1. To put a controlled substance in someone’s drink or food is criminal. Two people went to the hospital and police are waiting for test results before pressing charges to the 19 year-old suspect. I remember the “Tylenol” scare and that killed innocent people. This is not funny.

    1. To put ANY non-food substance in with the intent to cause harm (no matter how small) is illegal. Agreed, not funny.

  2. First of all, this idiot was 19, part of that special group who feels that emotional needs must be fully supported at work (no bad vibes). But in no way was he entitled to drug his co-workers to get them high to create the”proper” atmosphere at work. That is the same as administrating a poison. He is fully liable for his actions and needs to thoroughly understand the consequences of his actions.

    1. Just want to point out that boomers dosed a lot more people in the 60s than Millenials have this century.

I’m not in any way attempting to soften what this kid did, but he didn’t do it because he’s 19 and part of an entitled generation… he did it because he’s a bad individual.

    2. I thought the “special group” she was referring to was 19-year-olds. Boomer, Gen X or Millennial, all 19-year-olds’ brain development is about the same regardless of what generation designation they fall under.

      1. I share Rob’s objection that this kind of bad behavior is not unique to a specific generation – or age group. We’ve certainly heard/read enough stories about adults spiking people drinks over the years (Bill Cosby comes to mind) to know that.

  3. I will be you fancy swiss chocolate that the idiot was high himself when he did it. But yeah, slipping any substance – controlled or not – in someone’s food or drink is a pretty malicious act.

(and speaking as an older Gen-X’er, who remembers being told her generation was lazy/apathetic/would bring civilization to its knees, and who works with lots of amazing younger folks – can we stop generalizing and crapping on people by age group? It’s inaccurate and unhelpful)

  4. I just want to clarify, from the article, that when the perpetrator says he wanted his coworkers to have “better energy” he almost certainly wasn’t talking about energy in a caffiene, work-harder sense. He was likely talking about spiritual energy, i.e. bringing a good vs. bad attitude to their daily lives.

    1. So? You don’t improve people’s ANYTHING by slipping drugs (legal or not) into their food ir drink. ESPECIALLY into alcohol, as that adds a whole layer of problems.

  5. This guy needs to grow up fast. He’s formed an opinion about his co workers and that’s fine. I would love to hear what they think of HIM! Irresponsible and dangerous.Ridiculous

  6. Incidentally, this reminds me of the internet’s almost complete support of those who would get revenge on lunch thieves at work by slipping something in a ‘bait’ lunch. I get stealing from the communal fridge is a shitty thing to do but it’s astonishing to me to see how many people think putting laxatives into a ghost-pepper laced sandwich is not only legal but justifiable in context.
