Three Energy-Boosting Supplements For Entrepreneurs From The World’s Top Ingredientologist

Forbes Coaches Council

Are you a B2B business owner? Want to increase your prices and double your sales? Learn more about the Superpower Accelerator.

The supplement industry is a $36.2 billion industry in the U.S., yet no one knows who creates the ingredients that power the industry or how they work. While we may think of these companies as reputable and trustworthy, most are not regulated by the FDA. There’s no guarantee what you’re getting in your supplements is safe to consume, let alone helpful for your goals and body physiology.

As both an entrepreneur and cancer survivor, wellness and supplements are a major part of my daily regime. They’re important for me (and any entrepreneur) to maintain the energy and get the rest that I need to run a multimillion-dollar business.

My friend, Shawn Wells, is a globally recognized “Ingredientologist” who has been responsible for inventing and patenting over 10 novel ingredients that have helped sell over $2 billion worth of products for major companies like GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe. He’s been called “The World’s Greatest Formulator” by industry professionals all over the world, and he is the bestselling author of The Energy Formula.

Who better to ask for advice about the best supplement options for business owners and someone with my medical history and busy lifestyle?

Check out our previous interview where Shawn shares his “stacks” for longevity, energy and fat loss. Whether you want to optimize your body from within, put on more muscle or increase your immune system so that you can survive the next pandemic, Wells has devised a way to do it.

He let me in on his top secrets about nutritional supplements, including the biggest red flags to look out for.

Avoid 'proprietary blends.’

The phrase “proprietary blend” is often used on supplement labels, but it doesn’t always mean what you think. What many people don’t know is that these blends can contain insignificant amounts of the key ingredients and are typically made up of a majority of cheap ingredients like vitamin C or creatine with only small levels of the noteworthy ingredients that actually make a difference.

Many manufacturers label their ingredients with little to no transparency. This can be frustrating for the consumer, who wants to make sure they are getting a product that is safe and effective. Full transparency in labeling allows consumers to know what they are putting into their bodies, while also helping them find products that have been tested and proven through independent scientific research.

Bottom Line: Do your research. “Proprietary blends” often contain insignificant amounts of the key ingredients on the label. Most likely, they don’t work. This phrase should turn your “BS meter” to high.

Outlandish claims are often hype.

Supplement bottles with outrageous claims are often marketing tricks to boost sales rather than produce results. If you see a claim on a bottle that doesn’t seem realistic or physically possible… trust your gut. It most likely isn’t true. If they’re claiming to have 900% or more than 100% recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of a particular ingredient, for example, that’s a major red flag.

Be on the lookout for newer companies that exclusively distribute their supplements through Amazon or a store chain. They most likely won’t have a solid track record and are infamous for exaggerated labeling.

Bottom Line: Supplements are not regulated by the FDA, so there is no way to know if a product actually contains what it claims. If it seems outlandish…it usually is.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for increasing your energy.

In today’s society, low energy and stress are an unavoidable part of life. The effects can be disastrous for our health and well-being if we don’t manage them properly. While there are plenty of supplements on the market to help combat stress, they are worthless if you aren’t also taking care of your body with proper diet and exercise.

We need to find ways to reduce stress to have a healthy body that will keep us going strong into old age — especially for those entrepreneurs who embrace a “hustle and grind” way of life.

The energy-boosting formula for entrepreneurs.

Shawn Wells recommends these three supplements specifically for entrepreneurs to boost cellular energy:

• C-8 medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs).

• Optimized curcumin to reduce inflammation in the brain and body and lift brain fog and fatigue.

• Glucovantage, which contains dihydroberberine — berberine with 5x the bioavailability — for preventing glycation, lowering blood sugar, slowing aging and improving fat loss.

Ultimately, all we really have is our health. It’s our most precious and valuable commodity and we need to treat it as such. While supplements are a great addition to overall health and well-being, it’s important to do your research, trust your gut about what you’re putting into your body and manage stress, diet and exercise.

No one is perfect. We all have good days and bad, but ultimately it’s about balance so that our lives are guided by flow rather than fear.
