10 Ways to Express Your Gratitude to Your Employees

Do you love your team? Do you find yourself wondering how you’d ever succeed without them? We hope you do, and if so, you should let them know it!

National Employee Appreciation Day takes places the first Friday of every March but that doesn't mean you need to wait until then to say thank you. It’s important to recognize employees and let them know how much their hard work and loyalty is appreciated. It’s so important in fact that a recent study found that of the 200,000 employees from 189 countries that were surveyed the most important single job element was... appreciation for their work!

So have some fun, get creative-- think of the things you’d appreciate. And if you need a little help, we have listed some ideas below on how to take your employee recognition to the next level.

  1. Social Media Praise- Use your company's social media accounts to highlight your office super stars. Just be sure to get their permission first—not everyone feels comfortable in the spotlight.
  2. Customized Bobbleheads or Action Figures- These are fun, unexpected, and a cool addition to any workspace.
  3. Shout-outs- When people go above and beyond make sure everyone knows it. Give them a shout-out at your next team huddle or weekly meeting.
  4. Commuter Perks- Reserve a parking spot close to the office for your employee of the month or pass out gas cards.
  5. Late Arrival Pass- Let employees pick a day to come in an hour or two late (or leave an hour or two early if that works better for their schedule). The gift of time is always appreciated.
  6. Meetings Just to Say “Thank You”- Surprise your employees by scheduling a short call or meeting where the sole purpose is just to thank them for a job well done.
  7. Thank You Cards- It might sound old-fashioned, but people still value a handwritten card. Just knowing you took the time out of your busy schedule to write down your appreciation can really brighten someone’s day.
  8. Give a Gift Card- Is there a local coffee or lunch spot that your employees love? If so, purchase a small quantity of gift cards to keep on hand and then pass them out whenever someone goes above and beyond in their role.
  9. Team Lunch- Whether you cater in or take everyone out to eat someplace nearby, treat your staff to a nice meal. If you have remote employees, then pay for their lunch to be delivered.
  10. Close the Office Early- Let everyone head out an hour or two early on a Friday and get a jump start on their weekend.

Remember, the above ideas are meant to compliment your company culture. No amount of free meals or gift cards will ever take the place of good management, competitive benefits and pay, and an engaging work environment. Treat your employees the way you’d want to be treated and they can help you achieve your dreams.
