My Silent Bravery

During Tuesday’s Coronavirus News Briefing, Americans were informed by the President and his medical advisors the death toll could rise as high as 200,000, a stress-inducing, anxiety-ridden announcement.

According to NPR’s Allison Aubrey, “And here’s a catch-22: The more you stress, the more vulnerable you can become to viruses, because stress can dampen your immune response.”

Aubrey goes on to quote Catherine Belling, of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, who says, “We’ve got national anxiety at the moment, a kind of shared stress, and we are all in a state of extreme uncertainty.”

One way to reduce stress and anxiety is through the power of music, which can influence and shape not only emotions but also generates somatic effects. Music brings about optimism and positivity, produces relaxation, and relieves nervous tension.

Music accomplishes this by balancing alpha brainwaves with the rhythm of the music. Alpha brainwaves indicate relaxation and awareness. In fact, Stanford University researchers stated, “Listening to music seems to be able to change brain functioning to the same extent as medication.”

My Silent Bravery – ‘Rise Up’

Enter My Silent Bravery, aka Wade Matthews, whose new song “Rise Up” is just what the doctor ordered to relieve stress, along with providing inspiration and encouragement in this ambiguous time.

Matthews explains the song, saying, “With the world being affected by the Corona Virus, I pushed to release this new song ‘Rise Up’ due to its positive and unifying message! We need to turn fear into faith and faith into resiliency and ‘Rise Up’ and overcome this pandemic!”

“Rise Up” opens on soothing, low-slung colors topped by Matthews’ dulcet voice, infusing the lyrics with velvety textures, uplifting and rousing. “We will rise up / Against the dying of the light, love / We’ll fuel the fire in the night of / We got the moment in our eyes / We will rise.”

With “Rise Up,” My Silent Bravery sustains the healing power of music, with his message of palpable resolve during the present national crisis.
