4 Tips For Creating A More Efficient Organization

In a pre-COVID world, successful companies remained profitable despite their inefficiencies. As we navigate towards a new normal, companies must maximize efficiency in preparation for future business disruptions; whether that be another global pandemic, the accelerated adoption of exponential technologies, or the complete dismantling of the previous work paradigm.

But asking people to be efficient or resilient doesn’t work. As with most complex organizational transformation, it’s common to hire experts, like NoW of Work, to accelerate the change and greatly enhance your chances of success.

However, here are a few best practices we use that can help you build a resilient and efficient organization.

efficient organization

1. Invest in frameworks and methodologies

We’re big fans of OKRs because of their ability to focus people and teams on what’s important. When authored well, the measurable key results drive behaviors you seek such as transparency in work, self-managed teams, and cross-functional collaboration.

We also use Scrum, and not just for our software engineers. We’ve created an operating system called the NoW OS that combines the best of these methodologies and has proven to dramatically improve business results and maximize organizational efficiency.

2. Commit to continuous feedback

Continuous feedback is an incredibly powerful tool that has the ability to grow and develop the people of your organization, improve the levels of trust and communication, and strengthen bonds between employees, managers, and leaders. Change is hard, so as you embark on your transformation, stay close to your team.

3. Invest in powerful tech tools

Tech fatigue is real. We all have so many apps on the go. This is why I’ve long been an advocate of 15Five. Their tool enables the tracking of OKRs and is the best continuous feedback tool on the market in my humble opinion. When used effectively, the ROI is massive.

4. Consider the creation of a “Future-Focused” team

This group of cross-functional, customer-obsessed team members will help predict the future of the organization. No one has a crystal ball on what life after COVID will look like. And history has shown that executives benefit from insights and innovation from their people. So why not build a team that’s tasked with scanning the environment, developing possible scenarios of the business, and begin building products and services that will help the organization thrive in the future?
