Action vs. Activity

The Bamboo Project Blog

Over on his Learnstreaming blog, Dennis Callahan writes about the difference between signing up for social media and joining: . Having a social media account (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin) doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve joined. It means you’ve signed up. It’s like signing up for the gym. You can say that you belong to the gym but if you don’t get on the equipment and exercise, what benefit is there to your body?

5 Reasons People Run From You at Networking Events

45 Things

One of the things people like me always harp on is that you need to network all the time, whether you're employed or not. But I will be the first to admit that when I look back, there are things I wish I had done differently in my own networking efforts. Like not have a glass of wine on an empty stomach after a seven-hour flight. Because I now know that it makes me talk about stupid stuff for 20 minutes like how one of my cats has terrible hairballs-and-I-don't-know-what-to-do-about-it-blah-blah

The Rules Do Apply: Navigating HR Compliance

Speaker: Ann Meyers Piccirillo

HR Compliance is like a giant game of whack-a-mole. Once you think your company is compliant with all policies and procedures documented and in place, there’s a new or amended law, regulation, or final rule that pops up landing you back at ‘start.’ There are shifts, interpretations, and balancing acts to understanding compliance changes. Keeping up is not easy and it’s very time consuming.

'My recent post on role models highlighted one of my "larger than life" heroes, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I made only a slight reference to the person who introduced me to Dietrich, and who essentially, is the one that moved me down my professional path. I have dozens of examples as to why I was so influenced by this person. Looking back now, I am not surprised that I have been in leadership roles beginning at a "young" age in both my personal and professional lives.

But things are changing quickly. This year, there’s so much taking place on HR 2.0 in the UK that it’s much harder for me to justify the transatlantic flight to myself.
