Tonight is the September #NextGenTA meetup at MaRS in downtown Toronto. The popular event will, this time, be talking about “Diversity by Design” and includes a panel of top experts and lots of opportunities for networking.

The event promises to offer a thoughtful and in-depth discussion focused on how companies are redesigning their processes to improve diversity and inclusion. The panel will be moderated by Kim Benedict, CEO & Co-founder, TalentMinded Inc.

Ji-A Min, Head Data Scientist at Ideal

Ji-A Min is the Head Data Scientist at Ideal, recruiting software that uses AI to remove unconscious bias from candidate sourcing and resume screening. As a diversity advocate, she’s been featured on The Atlantic, quoted in TechRepublic and GetApp, and published on Undercover Recruiter and Recruiter.com.

 

Johnathan Nightingale, Founder & Partner, Raw Signal Group

Johnathan Nightingale is a founder and partner at Raw Signal Group. He is co-editor of The Co-pour and co-author of a book about modern leadership (coming fall 2017).

Johnathan has built and operated organizations from 2 people to 250. He was the Vice President of Firefox for Mozilla during a period of intense turmoil inside Mozilla and in the web at large, helped build and launch the first Firefox offerings on Android and iOS, and still cheers every time the open web wins.

After Mozilla he joined Hubba as their Chief Product Officer, and helped that team triple in size while improving their diversity stats instead of watching them slide. He is proud to sit on the board of Creative Commons, and is a big believer in the power of mission-based organizations.

Salim Teja, President, Venture Services for MaRS Discovery District

Salim Teja is the President, Venture Services for MaRS, where he leads the overall strategic direction of MaRS’ venture services areas: Energy & Environment (Cleantech), Finance & Commerce (FinTech), Health and Work & Learning. He is an experienced entrepreneur and active early-stage technology investor, with deep industry expertise in software and digital media.

Salim joined MaRS from Indigo Books & Music, where, as vice president of corporate development, he drove the formation of the company’s Digital Innovation Lab. Prior to Indigo, Teja held the position of COO at CX Digital, a leading online ad network.

He has also held roles as COO of b5media and partner with early-stage VC firm Brightspark Ventures, where he was the driving force behind investments, including Radian6 (recently acquired by Salesforce.com). He was also co-founder and vice president of sales and business development for San Francisco-based MobShop Inc., a pioneer in online group-buying funded by GE Capital, Visa International, Mayfield Fund and Marc Andreessen.

Marie Chevrier, CEO, Founder, Sampler

Marie Chevrier is a young entrepreneur originally from Montreal, Canada. Marie started her career in advertising at J. Walter Thompson in Toronto.

From there, she had the chance to work at a venture capital firm in New York City. After a few years there, Marie came back to Toronto to merge her passion for marketing and technology. Marie started Sampler with a vision to transform the way consumer packaged good companies distribute samples.
