I've had this conversation several times now, almost verbatim. If you can't see what other people are doing, you can't very well collaborate with them. That party would quickly face an attendance problem, just as Sharepoint has an adoption problem. You can do all the change management and attend all the conference break-out sessions you want, but you won't get adoption until you deliver transparency.

And it was a good day, time and money well spent. I don’t know the numbers, but I’d guess there were about 150 people in attendance, from all over the U.S. Kelly described the complex ecosystem of technology as a “Technium” that has its own “needs” and “wants” as it continues to evolve over time. Intriguingly, some technologies become obsolete, but not extinct; there are today more blacksmiths in the world than at any time in the past.

The Process for Performance-Based Termination


Moreover, you want to give employees plenty of time to improve, and give them the tools needed to get there. It doesn’t hurt to send a follow-up e-mail on plans of action and have the employees sign a document saying they attended the meeting, even if they sign at the bottom that they don’t agree with the decision. Make sure you document and have employees sign that they attended the meeting. “It should be enough time to improve performance, about 30 days.”

My third set of questions were around the preparedness of HR to deliver against these challenges, and it sounded as if Brady Corp’s HR teams are set up quite well for this. And here the issue is mainly about the time-lag between strategy and execution.
