11 Future-Forward Ways To Evolve Coaching Practices In 2022

Forbes Coaches Council

With new leadership philosophies, technologies, workforce models and marketing strategies emerging in 2022, there’s a lot to look forward to in the world of business—including professional coaching. No matter what industry or focus your coaching practice centers on, it’s essential to stay abreast of changes to the way professionals work and live and adapt as needed to best serve clients where they are.

From finding better ways to handle day-to-day activities to becoming more engaged with clients and peers, new technologies, communities and ideas can help coaches of every stripe grow in the year ahead. Here, 11 members of Forbes Coaches Council share their top goals for improving their coaching practices in 2022 and how they plan to achieve them.

1. Engage More On Professional Platforms

My goal is to engage more on professional platforms to establish meaningful connections and network more actively. Having said that, I also need to be more discerning about my choice of social media to ensure added value to my business and brand. I plan to do this by collaborating with others and implementing a very clear and effective social media strategy for myself and the business. - Rittu Sinha, The Balanced Bandwagon

2. Nurture Existing Customer Relationships

My No. 1 goal in 2022 will be to continue taking care of customer relationships. There is no need to intensively search for new customers. It will be more productive to continue working on improving the services we provide to current customers. By doing this, we will get more referrals based on the high-quality services we provide and improve our reputation in the market. - José Luís González Rodriguez, ActionCOACH

Forbes Coaches Council is an invitation-only community for leading business and career coaches. Do I qualify?

3. Streamline Processes And Refine Client Sessions

I plan to systematize, automate, delegate and streamline more processes through my virtual assistant. I’m also developing short videos for clients to watch prior to sessions so that we can spend time focusing on implementation and course correction. Finally, since my clients love it but don’t always ask for it, I’m providing more structured mindfulness work for my executive and business clients. - Marcia Narine Weldon, Illuminating Wisdom

4. Scale Up Through Strategic Partnerships

I’ll be working on scaling up the business through strategic partnerships with training companies and consultancies that are committed to providing their clients with the most up-to-date and complete solutions. The world has completely changed, and new challenges require new solutions. A coaching business can be scalable with the right tools, while a coaching job is limited by the number of hours someone can work. - Csaba Toth, ICQ Global

5. Partner With Other Coaches

My No. 1 goal for 2022 is to increase my partnerships with other coaches. In 2021, I learned that partnering with other coaches creates opportunities greater than what you’d be able to generate on your own. It brings a fresh set of eyes and a new perspective into the equation. My practice grew substantially from partnering, so I plan to do it even more in 2022. - Dennis Kight, it works! LLC

6. Spend More Time Coaching The Team

As CEO, I am changing my role to Chief Empathy Officer. I need to spend more time coaching my own team than coaching and facilitating for clients. The whole point of growing a team is to empower them and let them thrive. In order to do that, it’s time to walk the talk. We have a weekly calendar with equitable time for one-on-ones with each team member in which I will coach, learn and support. - Alex Draper, DX Learning Solutions

7. Continue To Develop Self-Awareness

Deepening my level of self-awareness as a coach is an ongoing journey. Reflective practice in line with my sensory preferences, along with supervision opportunities, will allow me to probe and will offer me potentially difficult but valuable insights. These will be useful to improve the ease of rapport with my clients, both in and out of sessions. - Arthi Rabikrisson, Prerna Advisory

8. Investigate Self-Leadership Strategies

In 2022, I am challenging myself, my clients and my students to work toward the highest level of excellence by investigating proactive strategies of self-leadership. We’ll be doing this through customizing each person’s high-level habits, in both morning and nighttime routines, to reflect their next-level self-concept and to show up confidently and boldly for their wildest, most impossible goals. - Trish Blackwell, Uncaged Confidence LLC / Trish Blackwell Coaching

9. Engage In Continuing Education

I’m completing a graduate certificate in positive psychology and plan on integrating what I’ve learned into my approaches. Emphasizing strengths and helping clients strive is the key! - David J. Smith, David J. Smith Consulting, LLC

10. Focus On Low-Volume, High-Value Clients

My aim is to do less and give more. That doesn’t mean doing less work; instead, I plan to identify a small number of high-value clients and charge a premium for working with them. In other words, my goal is to focus on low-volume, high-value assignments. This is a strategy that has always worked for me. It kept my practice thriving even through the pandemic, and it has kept my focus on providing value at world-class levels. - Vinesh Sukumaran, Vinesh Sukumaran Consulting

11. Comprehensively Optimize Services

My word for 2022 is “optimize,” and that covers all aspects of delivering results for my clients. We’ll work to optimize our content, optimize the way we interact and engage throughout the program, optimize the way we get in front of potential clients, and optimize the backend to not only make sure clients get the best outcomes from our program but also enjoy the process through a standout experience. - Petra Zink, impaCCCt
