LinkedIn Data Predicts 65% Shift In Job Skills By 2030 Due To AI

Intriguing data from LinkedIn indicates that by the year 2030, there will be a seismic shift in job skill requirements as AI accelerates workplace change, with the skills needed for jobs changing by at least 65%.

Recently, we’ve witnessed a steady rise in AI’s importance in the employment arena. In the last two years alone, LinkedIn data shows there’s been a remarkable doubling in job listings that specifically mention AI or its subdomain, generative AI. The clamor for these roles is evident, with applications for AI-specialized positions growing 17% faster compared to non-AI-related jobs. More broadly, a survey from the professional network indicates that a whopping 89% of professionals across the globe are excited about the prospect of using AI in their respective fields. Moreover, a significant 57% have expressed a keen interest in expanding their knowledge about this groundbreaking technology.

Despite potential misconceptions, the primary objective of assimilating AI into workplaces is to enhance, not overshadow, the intrinsic strengths of human beings. By supporting repetitive, mundane tasks, AI paves the way for professionals from diverse fields to channel their energies towards endeavors that are intrinsically human—those that necessitate human empathy, insight, and discretion.

Within this rapidly evolving landscape, the responsibilities and influence of human resources and recruitment departments are becoming even more pronounced. Their role is no longer confined to mere hiring or learning and development. They are instrumental in sculpting organizations’ strategic vision and ensuring they have the skills to deliver it.

LinkedIn’s Chief Operating Officer, Dan Shapero, underscored the increasingly strategic role HR professionals play in their organizations today. In an email to me, he said: “They will lead their companies through a massive skills transformation prompted by AI.”

“While AI is changing the skills landscape, it is also unlocking new tools for talent professionals which are already delivering impact, including helping them hire quality candidates faster and delivering on the promise of personalized learning to employees,” he added. “These tools allow talent professionals to spend more time building relationships with candidates and fostering a strong company culture.”

LinkedIn’s data finds that a staggering 90% of talent professionals are cognizant of the heightened strategic dimension of their roles. Furthermore, 61% of them have already begun weaving AI-driven tools into their daily workflows, while a similar percentage actively encourages AI-centric training for their teams. This data corroborates the notion that for the majority of HR specialists, AI isn’t a fleeting trend. It is perceived as a cornerstone that will shape their functions, especially in enhancing human-to-human interactions and relationships, in the foreseeable future.

For corporate leaders and entire organizations, maintaining a finger on the pulse of AI’s advancements is no longer a luxury—it’s an imperative. As the future of work materializes before our eyes, being agile and well-informed is of the essence. So, what are the implications for leaders and workforce nurturing in this AI-dominated era? A primary takeaway is that leaders must spearhead the charge in comprehending and assimilating AI innovations.
