Companies that hire WITHOUT doing background checks

There are companies that hire without doing background checks.  I’ll be transparent and let you know that I don’t suggest to companies to not do background checks.  

From the business side of things, there are a lot of costs that the company takes on when they don’t do background checks. With background checks, you can minimize those costs and prevent liabilities.

All background checks are NOT the same.  Everyone does not check for the same things.  It completely depends on the following: 

  • The company’s industry
  • The position being filled
  • The company’s accesses that are given to a potential employee
  • The type of liability insurance that the company has

Day Labor, Work Pool, and Ready To Work

If you have a criminal record or have been previously incarcerated, there are companies that will hire you either while knowing that you have a criminal record or without asking about it all.  Most places that those companies look for new hires are through local Day Labor, Work Pool, or Ready to Work hiring agencies.  

In these cases, your paycheck and tax forms may show the name of that third-party company, which is their designated Day Labor, Work Pool, or Ready to Work of choice.  It may be possible to transfer into that company as a full-time employee after showing yourself as a “good” employee for a period of time or after meeting other minimum requirements.  

Most companies that hire directly or by using a Day Labor, Work Pool, or Ready to Work company are:

I recently watched BET’s American Gangster: Trap Queens and the CEO of Solar Central Systems had an episode in one of those two seasons.  It was so exciting to see his complete turnaround from felon to CEO.  He prides himself on giving others a second chance by hiring them with his multi-state company. 

Small/Family-owned businesses 

Other places where job seekers with criminal records or those who were previously incarcerated can find employment are small, family-owned businesses.  Don’t shy away from finding out about these types of companies from family and friends or simply by stopping by their establishment.  

The most commons family-owned businesses are:

  • Hair Stores
  • Gas Stations
  • Restaurants

Types of jobs available from companies that do not do background checks

I understand that the cost of living has increased and you may have additional financial burdens that require you to have a higher income level. As result, I’ve listed additional resources that you should definitely check out. 

I just love the fact that more and more work-from-home jobs are becoming available.  Keep in mind that there are companies that are hiring without background checks or with very minimal background screening requirements.

Organizations that help those released from prison get jobs

Personally, I don’t believe in “putting all of your eggs in one basket”.  To find employment quicker, then here are additional options.  I’m a big fan of LinkedIn

I was so happy to see LinkedIn expand to being a resource for those who may not have previously looked to their platform as a resource.  LinkedIn had a LIVE presentation focused on helping convicted felons find employment. 

This live presentation was being done by the Center for Employment Opportunities which offers tons of assistance in addition to work opportunities.  They also assist with finding temporary housing.

Personally, I have a soft spot for those who have had challenges in the past.  I have people who are close to me that include extended family, friends, and childhood friends who have criminal records.  For me, there is a face behind the background check.
