Over the last few weeks, Mexico has been in the international news because of a protest march against President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s plans to gut the country’s independent election oversight body. But, foreign publications have also written about the trend of digital nomads visiting Mexico City, the NBA’s potential plans to create a team in Mexico City, and other topics.

On November 4, Bloomberg published an article on the rising number of digital nomads and tourists visiting Mexico. The article explains, "International tourists overall spent $17.7 billion in Mexico through August of this year, 13% more than in the same period in 2019.”

On November 8, Andscape published an article on the NBA’s possible expansion to Mexico City. The NBA’s minor league, the G-League, now has a team based in Mexico City, the Capitanes. In the article, Marc Spears explains, “The NBA... acknowledged... that Mexico City could be a potential NBA expansion site if all goes well with the Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico.”

On November 13, The New York Times published an article about the trouble brewing in the beer industry in northern Mexico, potentially threatening Mexico’s status as the world’s number one beer exporter. The article explains, “As droughts become more frequent and severe, brewers and other heavy industrial water users have landed at the center of the climate fight in Mexico, with activists leading a movement to reclaim resources from corporations."

On November 22, FreightWaves published an article on the ongoing trade dispute between Mexico and the United States over genetically modified (GM) corn. The article explains, “Mexico’s plan to block imports of GM corn could be a violation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal the three countries signed in 2020.”

On November 25, the Associated Press published an article about mismanagement at Mexico City’s airport. The article explains, “Mexico’s domestic airline industry is in shambles, plagued by safety problems, a ratings downgrade by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, and vandalism.”
