BAME equality in the workplace

Strategic HCM

Last week I ‘attended’ Westminster Employment Forum’s conference BAME equality in the workplace. Speakers referred to the McGregor Smith report last year suggesting that BAME equality would generate £24bn per year to the economy. And if organisations don’t get data on more than say 40% of the employee population then they won’t be able to use it effectively - especially if it’s people from diverse populations who are not providing it. Why should employers care about the gender pay gap?

Workable

But, the way the gender pay gap is framed by activists hurts the equal pay cause. These include flashy announcements on Equal Pay Day , and disingenuous reports of pay equity. But, the gap cannot be whittled down to simplistic phrases, like “women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn”, or “equal pay for equal work.”. These dramatized slogans don’t capture the finer points of the gender pay issue because: They don’t compare equal work. Hire diverse leaders.

At this year’s Great Place to Work Conference , I heard from several CEOs that the speed of change was keeping them up at night.
