Iceland enforces equal pay. Iceland is now the first country to enforce equal pay for men and women after the Equal Pay Standard came into effect last week. The legislation, passed last June, requires employers to prove that they are paying men and women equally. According to the New York Times , “Iceland has had equal pay laws for half a century, pushing companies and the government to gradually reduce the pay gap.
