DOL Pulls Independent Contractor and Joint-Employer Guidance

Department of Labor withdraws misclassification guidance. Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) said that it is withdrawing two guidance memos on joint-employer liability and independent contractor classification. These guidance memos were issued in 2015 and 2016 under the Obama administration. A reader writes: I’ve recently returned to work from my maternity leave, and as I am still breastfeeding, I need to take breaks to express breast milk throughout the day. I know the law requires I have a space with a locking door, but my office doesn’t have any doors with locks. I had worked it out with my manager that I can use her office unless she is on a call and can’t leave, in which case I would use the supply room (where our large printers and copy machine are located) and put a “Do Not E
