The holidays swirl about us as we come to realize another year has swiftly come and gone. We gladly celebrate the end of the year with our team members and share peace, joy, and prosperity wishes with one another.

As we look to begin a new year it also comes with feelings of both anticipation and trepidation. After experiencing a pandemic, great resignation, workforce shortages, quiet quitting, and mass layoffs - we can’t help but wonder with anxiety what kind of new challenges await us in 2023.

The results of a survey I conducted among clients and subscribers indicate that workplace challenges are multi-dimensional. A pressing concern is improving organizational effectiveness (50%). This concern is closely followed by strategic workforce planning and improving the HR Relationship with employees and leaders (42%). In third place is retention and closing the skills gap (38%). Recruiting is fourth place (35%) and workforce reductions is fifth place (12%). It’s evident that HR professionals and organizational leaders are balancing multiple priorities and challenges all at once.

Many HR leaders express that creating a HR strategic plan feels like building a house on quicksand. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many ways to kick off the new year strong to make a positive impact on retention and recruitment results.

To support our readers, I've released this free guide “3 Steps to Improve Your Organization’s Effectiveness in Unpredictable Times.” Get the guide now and start plotting your steps to a strong 2023.

Happy New Year! May the New Year bring you happiness, peace, and prosperity!
