I love the SHRM Annual Conference for so many reasons, but having it in New Orleans makes it really special. Besides seeing my HR friends and colleagues in person at #SHRM22 in NOLA, I am thrilled to be back at SHRM’s annual conference in person! Virtual sessions are great (and I’m so glad SHRM is doing so many concurrently with in-person sessions), but it feels like it’s been way too long since I raised a glass with some good friends.

The sessions we’re most excited to attend during the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2022 (there are a lot more than seven, but my team made me narrow it down for this post!):

Escaping Our “Thinking Traps” – Creating a Culture of Psychological Safety presented by Jacob Goldstein, Founder of The Leadership Laboratory. In-Person and Virtual Monday 06/13/2022 07:30 AM – 08:30 AM (Central Time). Attendees will discover the five common thinking traps that halt a culture of psychological safety, and learn the escape route strategies to help ourselves and others break free and take flight.

13 Brutal Realities Stalling DEI and B Efforts presented by Jarik Conrad, Vice President, Human Insights and Executive Director of the Equity at Work Council, UKG. In-Person Monday 06/13/2022 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM (Central Time). Participants will learn about 13 inconvenient but foundational challenges resulting from past and present systems, structures, and behaviors.

HR Revealed!! – Transforming from Support Role to Strategic Leader presented by Steve Browne, SHRM-SCP, SHRM Board Member, Chief People Officer, LaRosa’s, Inc. In-Person and Virtual Monday 06/13/2022 01:30 PM – 02:30 PM (Central Time). This session will equip attendees with an approach to be intentionally strategic in their HR role regardless of their level. It will also show them how to integrate departments to move the entire organization forward through performance.

Steve was on our HRetreat CHRO panel in May of 2021 and I love how passionate and knowledgeable he is about all things HR leadership. In addition to his CPO role, Steve facilitates a monthly HR Roundtable in Cincinnati and runs an internet message board for HR professionals that reaches 12,000+ people globally on a weekly basis.

LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion: Awareness, Etiquette, & Best Practices presented by Tara B. Taylor, Managing Director, ADR Vantage, Inc. In-Person and Virtual Monday 06/13/2022 01:30 PM – 02:30 PM (Central Time). Attendees will deepen their understanding of LGBTQ+ employees and walk away with proactive and responsive strategies for workplace inclusion.

Adapt or Die: When Failure is An Option presented by Stacey A. Gordon, Executive Advisor and Diversity Strategist, Rework Work. In-Person and Virtual Monday 06/13/2022 03:30 PM – 04:30 PM (Central Time). Companies are losing their Fortune 500 status at an alarming rate and senior leaders are to blame. Sound harsh? Maybe it’s time to put our egos and hurt feelings aside and take a long hard look at the legacy today’s leaders are leaving behind. We’ll examine studies that demonstrate the critical nature of employee engagement, the link to turnover and increased costs as well as put a spotlight on what happens to creativity in homogenous workplaces. We’ll make the connection between employee engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion so that leaders can underscore their role in creating workplaces that work for all.

Put Your Oxygen Mask on First: Banishing Burnout in Human Resources presented by Lora Haines, Director of Learning and Development, JB Training Solutions. In-Person and Virtual Tuesday 06/14/2022 07:30 AM – 08:30 AM (Central Time). Attendees will be empowered to put their own oxygen masks on first to set boundaries, preserve energy, and banish burnout to reengage with meaningful work.

Revamping Your DEI Playbook with Effective Employee Communications presented by Judy Ellis, SVP, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisory, AMS. In-Person and Virtual Tuesday 06/14/2022 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM (Central Time). Attendees will Learn key tools and ‘watch-outs’ for building DEI strategy that resonates with all employee audiences, including underrepresented groups, senior stakeholders and other employees.

I love that this year’s conference focuses on diversity, empathy and burnout in HR – these are topics that are extremely important and I am glad that there are so many sessions and learning opportunities. Check out all sessions for #SHRM22 in New Orleans here.
