Remember our Nation’s Military Veterans on November 11

This year, we celebrate Veterans Day on Friday, November 11. It’s a day we set aside each year to honor and show appreciation for all who have served in the U.S. military—in wartime or peacetime, living, or deceased.

Veterans day 2022

The holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It initially fell on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I, “the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month” in 1918. In 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" to honor all veterans in all wars.

We celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

There are several ways to honor our military veterans. One that I especially like is to attend a Veterans Day event in your community with family and friends, a parade or service for veterans. Another is to ask a veteran about their service. Learning more about their service can help you to appropriately say "thank you." Remember our Nation’s Military Veterans on November 11

Veterans Day is a time for all of us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day—and every day—we stand united in respect for our veterans.

Please join me in recognizing our military veterans.
