In reply to AnotherOne. You may need to change the way you’re asking the question. Essentially, you’re asking, “How can we get the next new hire to commit to us for 2-3 years, but we can still drop them before that if it doesn’t work out?” So it may be what you can offer them that will make them stay that long, not just getting them to say that they will.

In reply to Pay no attention… I’ve experience this twice in situations where the company WAY overpromised without checking with any of the SMEs, or looking at any schedules. In all subsequent meetings where they called it a “success” I interjected that what happened was not success, it was getting away with it. And we’d benefit from knowing the difference.

In reply to PX. I saw a tweet describing this as coconut culture vs peach culture. People in some cultures take a long time to warm up to strangers but then they’re dedicated to the friendship and want it to become deep and long lasting (like getting past the hard shell of a coconut into the softer flesh). People in a different culture are happy to have light and often fleeting friendships, but don’t open up into deeper relationships (like the soft flesh of a peach surrounds the hard

In reply to Kay. Absolutely. This also depends on the type of property, in some countries non-citizens aren’t allowed to own real estate, for example. Inheritance tax can also become a factor for even fairly small amounts, in Finland inheritances below 20k euros are tax free, and if you inherit 30k, you pay tax on 10k.

I took a lot more care after having my wisdom teeth extracted, and later a molar extracted because the root canal job failed and my jawbone got infected.
