Today, more than one million California residents are expected to be without power due to the first phase of PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff. Some of my fondest memories of growing up in San Francisco are the sunny afternoons I’d spend at Golden Gate Park feeding ducks, playing frisbee, and picking flowers. I had handed over control of our boat to one of my participants—let’s call him Mike—to guide us through the day’s whitewater.
