The George Foreman Grill of Scheduling: Humanity Melts Away the Excessive Time Spent Creating Schedules

Excel tastes great, but it’s not quite right for this party!

My first job out of college was a pretty high-volume pizza place in California. We were continuously understaffed, constantly on the phone trying to find replacements, and always rushing to do so. I was 23 years old, working with other college students, recent graduates, and perpetual “shift traders” who showed up late and missed shifts based on schedule “confusions”. We used excel spreadsheets for scheduling employees and pinned it on the back wall of our break room.

After consistent use, we start to learn the limitations of great products. When I was a child, I was convinced that my scissors in art class were Excalibur’s sword. I distinctly remember trying to take my Scotch brand scissors and attempting to cut a half-inch thick rope with no success. In utter dismay, I abandoned my endeavor and sought after the teacher’s pair – what I dub today as the Stuff-Cutter 3000.

My Scotch brand scissors were still a great tool but they just couldn’t cut the mustard when it came to something more complex.

Excel is an amazing product for many things, but there is a better and still VERY cost-effective method for time and absence management. Restaurant owners are some of the busiest people I know and for those who are doubling as chefs, they simply do not have the time to handle these day-to-day employee management tasks.

We can help you boost your productivity! Imagine viewing schedules in real-time, easily accessed from a smartphone or a laptop with an internet connection. Or what about having automatic alerts sent out when a shift becomes available? Imagine a world without the questions, “Hey, has the schedule been posted yet?” and, “Yo, can you see what time I work tomorrow?” What if you could be like Ron Popeil and “Set It and Forget It!”

An advanced workforce management software can be your Showtime Rotisserie of time and attendance – the George Foreman Grill of scheduling where all the excess fat just melts away.
