The Four Patterns that Should Guide All Your Career Moves

The Bamboo Project Blog

wrote a couple of long posts in February on the two major factors most job seekers are dealing with in this economy. The first was on the reality that there aren't enough jobs for everyone who wants one. The second was on the poor quality of many of the jobs that do exist. . After writing these, though, I was left wondering what it is we can do to operate in this kind of environment.

Why poor spelling and grammar hurt your career

45 Things

A couple of years ago I played the game Cranium for the first time. When the challenge was for my team to correctly spell "pharaoh," of course they chose me to take it on. That turned out to be a mistake as I confidently spelled it "pharoah." I'll be the first to admit that even as a professional writer, I sometimes make mistakes. But I try not to, because I know my professional reputation is at stake (not steak).

Big Data v Big Information

I hear a lot about big data. You probably do too. I have visions of a giant warehouse filled with green bar paper stacked from floor to ceiling. That''s not what big data looks like of course. Applying Big Data to Human Resources Here''s a question I''ve been wanting to ask for some time, but quite candidly was too embarrassed to utter the words: what does big data have to do with my role as an HR leader?

Why Leaders Should Care About The Equal Pay Gap & Flexible Work-Life Arrangements

Inpower Coaching

On average, companies are paying women 77% as much as the guys in the cubes next to them, doing the same jobs. Drug Testing 101: Pass or Fail?

Drug Testing 101: Pass or Fail? Having a drug free workplace policy doesn’t mean employees will not be drug users. The policy works similarly to not being able to use cell phones on airplanes. Everyone knows the rule, but there will still be one passenger who has to make a last hushed call or send a quick text. The same applies to having a drug free workplace policy. Employees may know the policy, but how does an organization ensure their employees stay drug free?

In 100 Words: Improvement and Tending a Garden

Improvement is never a destination, but a journey that is organic, constant and never-ending. Consider this story from Subroto Bagchi’s book “ The High Performance Entrepreneur ”. What We Need: Compassionate Compliance

Compliance stems from our need to ensure certainty, reduce variability and adhere to a certain structure or model. Compliance may be explicit (e.g. to a certain process model like ISO) or it may be implicit (e.g. to a certain specific belief system, way of working or ideology). Focusing on compliance means that you have a direction to follow and it should allow you to focus on the nuances of work without worrying about the basics.
