Is employee engagement your No. 1 challenge? 5 other things to keep in mind

Ceridian

In most offices, talent management leaders have zoomed in on employee retention and productivity as crucial goals for both their short- and long-term needs. In an effort to put together a hardworking staff that’s built to last, companies have put a great deal of emphasis on engagement, and rightfully so. #SHRM Benefits Survey: 40% More Companies Offer Telecommuting

Workology

According to SHRM’s 2016 Employee Benefits Survey , published today, 40% more organizations offer telecommuting in 2016 than in 1996. It’s not that I didn’t expect to see a dramatic increase in telecommuting reflected in the survey. We know that telecommuting is both more common and more in demand from employees. Too, the SHRM survey spans 20 years and technological change during that timeframe has made telecommuting easier and easier with each passing year.

There Are No HR Heroes

Laurie Ruettimann

If there’s an overused marketing trope in my industry, it’s the notion of HR heroes. Have you noticed the campaigns and advertisements? Companies celebrate human resources professionals who swoop in and save the day when you need something at work. Here’s the thing about HR heroes: They’re not heroes. HR professionals don’t leap tall buildings in a single bound. They tell their workers to stop leaping because it violates the employee handbook. So what makes a hero?

Is Giving People A Chance The Ultimate Disruptor?

SuccessFactors

Companies that are “disrupting” the marketplace are generally regarded as having been established after the dawn of the digital age. However, even back in 1987, Home Trust Company found success by disrupting the market. They accomplished this by accepting opportunities that Canada’s big banks were turning down. Their business started with just 12 people and one savings and loan, and has now grown to around 1,000 employees and over CA$20 billion in assets.

It’s five answers to five questions. Here we go…. I’m being fired and don’t know why. After three years of working at my company, I was told “we are not a good fit” and my last day will be July 1. They will be paying me through August 15. They have told me I can say whatever I want about my separation, and they will provide me with a good reference. (I I wouldn’t plan on using my “current” employer as a reference anyway – that seems obviously weird to me.)

How You Can Repair Trust

HR Bartender

A big takeaway during this year’s Great Place to Work conference was that transparency builds trust. And that trust is often broken when the organization does things that are contrary to their culture. Because culture tells customers, candidates, and employees what to expect. Great Place to Work CEO Michael C. Bush talked about it in the context of creating a “great place to work for ALL”, not only for a majority. But every once in a while, stuff happens and trust is broken.

Does Changing Company Culture Mean You Must Change Leadership
