Subtle energies have a dramatic effect on everyday life, and it is no wonder that some leaders are trying to grasp the potential embodied in an energetic framework.

For centuries these concepts have held a powerful place in healing processes, and they have emerged more recently into our collective consciousness through depth psychology. Now, a belief in the power of energetic awareness in everyday life is ushering in fresh insight into how to master leadership skills.

Shifting the leadership conversation from “try harder, do more” to “think higher, achieve more” provides a new leverage point for organizations to transmute overwhelm and reset their trajectory to remain truly competitive in today’s world.

You might be thinking that bringing the concept of energetic awareness to leadership development is woo-woo and dangerously invites pseudoscience into important and high-stakes dialogue. But let’s face it: The mainstream embrace of meditation, mindfulness and even shamans has already let the energetic cat out of the bag, and that contemporary cat is never going back in.

As change-makers, our opportunity is to follow that cat and help shape its paradigm-shattering influence as it brings powerful epiphanies to leaders everywhere. Epiphanies that allow them to elevate their consciousness, tap into greater creativity and pursue industry-catalyzing, out-of-the-box solutions.

Simply put, if you wish to be on the leading edge of leadership development, an invitation awaits you to join a growing movement to embrace energetic concepts in leadership.

Here are four energetic concepts relevant to today’s leaders:

1. Awareness

Awareness of subtle energies in yourself and your organization is the first step to influencing greater team spirit, flow and synergy between roles. With greater awareness of the energy at play, opportunities to build connections will reveal themselves in big and small ways. For instance, through the lens of energetic awareness, leaders can gain personal sensitivity to assess whether the organization’s team spirit is flowing or blocked.

2. Presence

As a leader, you are the instrument that your department tunes into. Just as about 80% of communication is nonverbal, energetic interventions that result in greater success are often nonverbal, as well. In fact, these deep and powerful interventions begin with a leader’s presence. Leaders who are palpably tapped into the energy of success—while being grounded and centered at the same time—are leaders whose presence can influence organizational success all the way down the line. When your personal presence is energetically organized like an instrument, you will be the lead violin in your orchestra of workers. In other words, your workers will tune to you. As your workers tune in to you, they gain a sense of well-being.

3. Energetic Tracking

Today is not yesterday or last week. It is now. Through the lens of energetic awareness, the energy of potential—or lack thereof—makes itself known each moment. The art of grasping potential and consciously moving it toward probability and finally manifestation is a leader’s core task. Understanding that the life of an organization is constantly renewing on a quantum level is the first step to turning exact moments into organization-wide momentum.

4. Vibration

We all know about the high cost of disengaged and disgruntled workers in terms of productivity. But recognizing the costs through an energetic lens allows us to consider the cost of disharmony, hostility and even gaslighting at work. Recognizing that competent and high-potential employees won’t want to work in a low-vibration department—and that under-functioning employees won’t have a positive environment in which to evolve—is the start of the clean-up process to reduce energetic undercurrents that sabotage your organization's success.

Considering that energetic awareness may be a leverage point for future leaders to impact organizational health and success turns leadership from a skill into an art form. This is an exciting time in history when, through the science of human potential, awareness of energy can be developed by every leader as they seize the moment (and energy) and help take their organizations to unprecedented new heights.
