The State of the Recruitment Industry

China Gorman

I recently ran across this: Global Staffing Trends 2017: The State of the Recruitment Industry. This little report from LinkedIn would be easy to dismiss, but I encourage you to take a look. It’s written for search/staffing firms. Not for corporate or in-house talent acquisition folks. So unless you’re a third-party staffing firm, not so interesting, right? Well, I’d encourage you to take a look.

3 Tools to Improve Communication with Your Employees

Cornerstone On Demand

Professional development guru and philanthropist Paul J. Meyer once said, “Communication—the human connection—is the key to personal and career success." As the tools that make up this “key" have evolved, businesses have invested time and money in staying on top of popular trends like text, mobile apps and social media. But these trends aren't only for communication with customers. This same evolution in communication can be used to improve relationships with employees.

TLNT: The Business of HR

The current trend is for companies to build in-house departments staffed with data scientists to do advanced analytics. However, this is probably only an option for large, sophisticated firms. Too Many Recruiting Tools Are Killing Your Recruiting Efforts

The Tim Sackett Project

You’ve heard of this concept of the Inverted-U Curve, right? It’s fairly straightforward. In the beginning, you have nothing or very little. As you increase the resources you begin to become more effective. Eventually, as you add more resources you’ll actually reach maximum potential. In the attempt to go even higher, you keep adding more resources, but you don’t see an increase in effectiveness or output, you actually see a decrease.

how much should years of service matter when setting salaries?

Ask a Manager

A reader writes: I have a question about how much value is placed on years of service vs. actual job duties. I started at my current job 10 years ago, under a coworker who had already been there 20 years. Initially, he was my manager, but as I took on additional responsibilities over the years I was promoted a few times and we are now at equal levels, performing similar (and overlapping) duties and reporting to the same boss. Our job titles are the same.

8 Ways to Deliver Training that Employees Retain

HR Bartender

The biggest concern organizations have when they invest in training is retention. By this, I mean having employees retain the material once they leave the class. No company wants to create a program and take employees out of the operation only to have the same issues occur repeatedly. It’s important for training programs to be designed and delivered in a way that increases retention of the content. So how do we do that?
