ATS Traffic provides traffic control solutions to organizations and communities across Canada, including work zone design and set up, lane closures and detours, as well as manufacturing and installing traffic signs and barricades.

Challenges

Prior to UKG, the company’s human capital management and workforce management processes were manual and time consuming, based on spreadsheets, email, and paper.

Solutions

With its full-suite UKG solution, ATS Traffic has removed the complexity from its HR practices and experienced significant results, specifically in onboarding new employees.

“Before UKG, we were spending almost four hours with new hires on their first day, one on one, at each of our nine locations. Now, with UKG, we can send documents to new hires electronically and they can review, complete, and sign tax forms and policy documents within UKG, prior to their start date,” said Janet Semeniuk, vice president of HR at ATS Traffic. “As a result, we can provide a consistent experience to all new hires, while saving an enormous amount of time as information gathered in our UKG recruiting module moves seamlessly through our system and into payroll. In fact, in 2022, we reduced our manual work by about eight hours for each of our 150 new hires, for a total time savings of 1,200 hours.”

Results

Once a hiring decision has been made, HR can generate offer letters quickly. When candidates accept, UKG onboarding helps ATS Traffic deliver an efficient, optimized new hire experience. Additionally, because of ATS Traffic’s coast-to-coast geographic footprint, the ability for candidates to complete their onboarding remotely has been a huge benefit to the company. Employees can also assess critical safety training through the UKG learning management system.

“Our remote workforce has access to the same learning curriculum as our on-site locations so we can ensure that our training is consistent and completed,” said Semeniuk. “Trainings are available via mobile so employees can take the courses at a time and place that suits them. We also use the learning solution for orientation information, and all mandatory training programs. Additionally, our employees possess certifications that require continuing education annually. UKG gives us an automated process to track what employees need and send them notifications when training is due.”

With projects all across Canada, the organization says UKG has been instrumental in helping source job candidates it previously didn’t have access to.

“We are using UKG to not only fill open positions but reach previously inaccessible candidates,” said Semeniuk. “Individuals can apply to our job openings wherever they are, right from their phone. On the administrative side, applications no longer come in through email but rather through our recruitment platform for faster processing and evaluation. Our hiring managers are engaged in the hiring process like never before, and we can send meeting invitations to applicants right inside the solution.”
