I'm delighted to agree with the APA and the GPMI and say yes, the show absolutely must go on, so we are packing our bags and heading west for what is arguably one of the highlights of the HR and Payroll events calendar. Back as a live event, I am thrilled to once again have the opportunity to meet and speak with people face-to-face. It's been a long time coming, and I have missed the energy, the excitement, and the impromptu conversations that only happen in the physical world.

What can you expect at the 2022 40th Annual APA Congress?

The APA Congress taking place May 10-13 is the ideal setting for payroll and HR professionals to meet and engage with colleagues from the world of payroll, tax, finance, global mobility, human resources, and benefits. You will hear about the latest legislative and regulatory changes directly from government representatives and industry experts and answers to your payroll challenges.

The agenda gives you the freedom to choose from various workshops covering topics from domestic and foreign payroll, accounts payable, human resources, management, benefits, and technology, to career development.

Who is on the Congress agenda for 2022?

The APA and GPMI have knocked it out of the part with yet another year of incredible speakers.

Sekou Andrews is inspiring the business world in powerful and unexpected ways through a new style of inspirational speaking called "Poetic Voice." His opening general session, "The Audacity of What If," aims to encourage and help brands humanize their messaging. You will learn new strategies to help your business get in touch with its humanity.

For Wednesday's general session, the Future of Work and Pay, Mike Walsh, "The Algorithmic Leader," poses and answers the question of the true potential of human intelligence in the 21st century.

The closing general session will be delivered by Marilyn Sherman, "The SEAT of Success: How Top Performers Never Settle for Balcony Seats," whom I have the pleasure of introducing. Marilyn will teach us all how to have more success by shifting our mindsets, acting on our goals, and motivating ourselves to take a front-row seat in our life.

There will also be a host of industry expert speakers, including Lisa Poole, CPP and 2021 Payroll Woman of the Year, and Michael Bateman, CPP 2021 Payroll Man of the Year.

I am also delighted to say that Immedis is presenting 2 sessions.

Global Payroll: The Secret Ingredient to International Expansion Success

With globalization on the rise and various expansion tactics at play, it's vital that payroll departments understand these expansion methods and are involved early in the process to ensure the building blocks and basics of being able to pay employees across the globe are in place. Leaving payroll out of the loop can have serious consequences for a business, effecting key areas like local compliance and employee experience. We will look at the various expansion tactics that companies can take, the pitfalls when payroll is not properly informed, and how you can effectively work with senior leaders to guide and advise in this area as a payroll expert.

Diversity, Inclusion, Equality, & Me

Diversity, inclusion, and equality are key concerns from both a socio-economic standpoint and their impact on the working environment. Understanding this vast area and where payroll can join these vital conversations is extremely important. In this session, we look at key trends in diversity and inclusion, specifically in the areas of gender bias, age discrimination, and pay equality across organizational levels. Claire and Fiona will talk about the importance of workforce information access; the reports needed to ensure businesses can visibly see and address any bias and touch on future trends that will continue to need the guidance of the payroll profession to manage properly.

Networking opportunities at the APA Congress

As always, there will be plenty of occasions for both professional and more social networking. The APA is hosting not one but two cocktail receptions, a party, and, my personal favorite, a costume contest. It also is the industry's largest payroll, AP, and finance expo, all in person or virtually- impressive. So make sure to allocate plenty of time to walk around the Expo to view and interact with exhibitors.

Speaking of, Immedis will be at Stand 447. Please drop by and chat with one of my colleagues or me.

I look forward to seeing you there. Register today!
