Debunk the Four Myths in Reskilling & Upskilling

The future of work and the underlying global reskilling challenge were among the hottest topics discussed at the World Economic Forum at Davos in 2019. The discussion addressed the emerging skills gaps arising from greater use of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. With the unprecedented speed of change and uncertainty technology is causing, more and more organizations and chief learning officers are strategizing to deal with this new challenge as a business imperative and competitive advantage. In this article, I want to zoom in on and debunk some related myths, so organizations will intentionally include and engage diverse talent, while putting together a blueprint and roadmap for reskilling and upskilling efforts.

Elevating Today’s Workforce to Meet Tomorrow’s Challenge

The challenge: Technology and automation are redefining the enterprise, the workforce, and how work gets done. How can corporate America prepare for and respond to these unprecedented shifts, and ensure women and people of color are not falling behind? The approach: The challenge requires corporate America to embrace a growth mindset and cultivate an inclusive and learning culture; offer an ecosystem with upskilling and reskilling opportunities, and resources for next-generation talent; and leverage digitization and automation to maximize the full potential of an innovative workforce. The impact: Digital transformation mandates lifelong learning as a strategic and growth imperative for corporate America.

Leading the VUCA World with Empathy, Humility & Inclusivity

The world is in crisis. The United States is in crisis. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, we have witnessed racial violence, racist threats, and hate crimes toward black people and other minority communities in America. The global public health pandemic, coupled with social injustice, has swept the world, making an unprecedented impact on every aspect of human life. This crisis is just the latest example of the VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) world we are living in—a world that has presented us with the 911 terrorist attacks, the 2008 economic crisis, the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and ongoing systemic injustice. Are we prepared to live and cope with this unparalleled turmoil over the long run? How can we lead the VUCA world in the 21st century?

Thinking like a designer can help us transform and advance DEI efforts by being more strategic and human-centric. It can offer us a useful tool to grapple with speedy change and complex problems and can propel our workforce to outperform the competition in the future.

Advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Systemically in Today’s Workplace

The challenge: Corporate America has been struggling to achieve sustainable progress in diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) at the workplace for decades. The approach: Adopt futuristic thinking, growth mindset, innovative approaches, a DEI ecosystem, and agility to well-position today’s workforce for new challenges in the digital era. The impact: DEI transformation contributes to outperforming the competition and propelling business success in the disruptive digital world.
