The consultants work on client projects in small ad hoc groups formed around topics of joint interest, for example, knowledge productivity or sustainable business. They founded K&S on the simple principle that a hierarchical environment is not challenging for knowledge workers and the necessary related principle of self-responsibility. Given those principles, after 15 years there are still no managers at K&S, nor hierarchy or job descriptions.
