At one point GM had 138 best practice teams and 33 centers of expertise working with identified subject matter experts. In 2008 KM was alive and well at GM. GM was brought down by a flawed strategy, but an organization’s strategy is clearly a product of the knowledge that exists within its walls. The knowledge existed within GM to develop a more competitive strategy. My work has primarily been about creating more effective knowledge sharing processes and communities.
