On the Need for HR Certification Research

In the wake of the HuffPost Top 100 Most Social HR Experts list , and the significant number on the list who do not have HR certification , was a comment made by one of those top 100 members: As a recruiting practitioner I really see no value personally or professionally in being a SHRM member or gaining a certificate. Unless someone could give me a really good reason to the contrary.
