This guide offers a pretty good idea of how business leaders are feeling, what keeps them up at night, and what approaches they’re taking to solve problems. Download the guide to see all the survey results and where your organization might stand comparatively.

6 Key Principles for Organizational Decision Making

HR Bartender

Organizations are always making decisions. And when faced with unique circumstances, they might have to make some more – including some really tough ones. Decision making isn’t easy. Some people avoid making decisions at all costs. And avoidance is a decision in itself. There are times when the outcome from no decision can be worse. At some point last year, I attended a conference where the speaker shared six principles for decision making.

Working From Home Version 2.0: 5 Things to Consider

HR Bartender

When COVID-19 started making headlines and employees were working from home, the idea was that this was all temporary. In a few weeks (or months), life would return to normal and we’d all be back in the workplace. That hasn’t exactly happened. In fact, many organizations are telling employees they can stay home for the rest of the summer, year, or forever. If you’re in one of these situations where your working from home is being extended, it might be time to think about your office set-up.

Mission Critical: Leveraging Learning Engineering to Drive Digital Transformation

Speaker: Trish Uhl, Founder of Owl's Ledge LLC and the Talent & Learning Analytics Leadership Forum

Digital is disrupting every part of an organization's value chain at a record pace, creating a critical need to transform operations and employees' ways of working. Formal training alone can't keep up; it's often too slow, too generic, inconvenient, inefficient, unduly expensive and lacks or lags methods for measuring business-related effectiveness. Trish Uhl show you how to start leveraging Learning Engineering, a multidisciplinary approach that combines modern technology, data analytics, decision science, learning sciences and change management with human-centered engineering design methodologies to ultimately deliver targeted learning outcomes and business results that keep pace with the business and merge learning into the flow of work and lead Digital Adoption.

HR Bartender

As organizations spend more time trying to recover from the business impact of COVID-19 , they will turn to data to help them. It makes total sense. Organizations have been using data to help them grow their businesses for years. This will be no different. What may be different is the type of data that organizations collect and how they analyze and make decisions from the data. Earlier this year, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) held its first People Analytics conference.

How Organizations Can Address Email Fatigue

HR Bartender

I ran across this article from CNBC on how many hours Americans spend on email each day. It’s an interesting read. The article says that we spend 209 minutes a day checking work email and 143 on personal messages for a total of 352 minutes. That translates to roughly 5 hours and 52 minutes each day (almost 6 hours a day). I have a couple of takeaways from this. If employees only answer work emails at work, then they’re spending a little over 3 hours a day on work email.

Technology: Do Not Let Your Company Become Obsolete

HR Bartender

While you know that I love my technology, there are some activities that I enjoy doing what some might term “old school”. Like I enjoy having a paper planner. I take handwritten notes during conferences. Some might say that I’m behind the times. Others will cite the research that says writing things down helps with retention. Frankly, I like it and it works for me. That’s what counts. And I’m not the only one.

HR Departments Should Have Data Policies

Human resources departments are filled with data. About applicants, candidates, employees, and alumni. This data includes addresses, health information, and social security numbers. HR has assessment data and information from drug/criminal/credit background screening. They have data about vendors – past, current, and future. HR has business intelligence data related to jobs, salaries, benefits, etc. Some of this data is online and some is good old-fashioned paper.
